As an Engineer, you will have a wide range of responsibilities focused on maintaining and monitoring the ship’s machinery, facilities, and equipment. You will work closely with the Captain and collaborate with the repair department to promptly address any problems or damages that arise. Additionally, your duties will include performing routine maintenance tasks independently, such as oil changes and general upkeep of the machinery.
Another crucial aspect of your role will be monitoring and checking the waste water tanks to ensure compliance with environmental regulations. You will also be responsible for managing technical materials, such as tools and expendable items, ensuring their availability and proper usage throughout the ship.
Maintaining a clean and safe engine room will be one of your top priorities. You will diligently identify and address any potential safety hazards, contributing to the overall well-being of the crew and guests on board.

In addition to your engineering responsibilities, you will play a vital role in monitoring the supply and quality of drinking water. This will involve taking samples and conducting tests to ensure that the water meets the highest standards. Working alongside the 2nd Captain, you will accurately record the test results in the drinking water logbook.
As a River Cruise Ship Engineer, you will be responsible for maintaining the engine room log. This includes making daily entries of gasoil, lubricating oil, and hydraulic oil levels, as well as recording temperatures, pressures, and operating hours in the engine maintenance book.
To qualify for this position, you should have a good command of German and/or English. A minimum of 3 years of experience in a similar position is preferred, and possessing certifications for „breathing apparatus carrier“ and „first aid“ is a significant advantage.
